Mitosis is equational division which results in the formation of two diploid daughter cells from one diploid parent cell.

Prophase is characterized by the condensation of chromatin into chromosomes and disintegration of nuclear membrane.

Metaphase is characterized by the alignment of chromosomes at equatorial plate.

Anaphase is characterized by the separation of sister chromatid and movement towards the opposite poles of the cell.

Telophase is characterized by the reappearance of nuclear envelope and condensation of chromosomes into chromatin.
