Answer #1

Hypothesis: The enzyme amylase has a maximum activity and optimum pH in a range of 3-9.

Prediction: If the amylase activity is found to be maximum in the pH range 3-9, then its optimum pH lies within that pH range.

From the given results, the starch disappearance is maximum in the pH range of 6- 7. Less time for the starch disappearance is in the pH 6-7. Hence the eznyme shows maximum activity in this pH range. Thus the optimum pH of amylase activity lies in this pH range. The first graph shows the time for starch disappearance (y axis) vs. pH (x-axis).

The second graph shows the activity (the unit and numbers are not given) of enzyme vs. pH.

Note: Hypothesis is somethaing that you expect the results from the experiment. And prediction always makes statement using if..then. This is what you observe the outcome if the hypothesis is supported.

please help me with this experiment??? Enzymes Experiment 1: Enzymes in Food Amylase is used by humans to facilitate digestion. Specifically, it is an enzyme that breaks down starch molecules into sugar molecules. This is why people sometimes observe a sweet taste after sucking on a starch-containing food for an extended period of time. Amylase is found naturally in human saliva and the pancreas. However, it is also present in some of the common plant foods consumed by humans. This...

In this experiment you will be measuring pH for several different solutions. A pH probe will be used rather than pH paper as it will be more accurate. You will be testing the pH of six solutions: deionized water, 0.1 M HCl, 0.1 M HCH3COO, 0.1 M NaCH3COO, 0.1 M NaOH, and a buffer made by mixing equal parts of HCH3COO and NaCH3COO. You will measure the pH of each solution three times: Neat - just the solution After the...
