Why should Africans in America call themselves African Americans and not Negroes or Black Americans?
Africans in America must be called African Americans. This is because the term "blacks" or "negro" gives rise to a master-soave mentality in the minds of both the blacks and the whites due to the situation that they had gone through in history. These terms have been assosciated with racism when adressadd to these individuals. This can also lead to a feeling of segregation or hostility when the terms are made use of in daily life which can affect them in their thinking as outcasts and not part of a group . It would hinder their rightful feeling of belongingness and thus the term is no longer put into use.
