Smartphones:-

Smartphones are the phones showing smartness in the modern times and are mobile devices capable to perform the functions of computer. It is a cellular telephone with an integrated computer and numerous other features which were absent originally in telephones, such as an operating system, web browsing and the ability to run software applications.The world's first smartphone was IBM's Simon that was showcased as a concept device than a consumer device during 1992 COMDEX computer trade show. It was efficient with sending emails and faxes, keeping a calendar of events for the user and sending messages.

According to statistics, almost half of the population owns a smartphone. A survey conducted by the Bank of America suggested that 96% of the millennials felt that smartphones are very important for them. Infact 93% of them stated that smartphones are more important than deodorant and toothbrush. The survey found out that an individual checks his/her smartphone every 6.5 minutes which is more than the time someone would do his/her office or school work interrogation.

The most important feature of a smartphone is its connectivity  to an app store. An app store is a centralized portal where users are able to search and download software applications to run on their phones. An app store includes around thousands of mobile apps for gaming, word processing, note-taking, organization, social media, health and fitness to name a few.They are also able to support accessories like bluetooth headphones, power charging cables and extra speakers. Due to the  fragile outer casing of most smartphones, users can  purchase screen protectors and cases to keep the phone safe.

There are many advantages associated with a smartphone.It helps in improving  people’s way of communication with each other. The communication channels have been modernized paving way to SMS, text messaging, call, video chat, and apps that allow people to instantly communicate to everyone across the globe like Messenger, Instagram to name a few. Time and distance may keep people apart but smartphones will always help them staying connected.The smartphones have revolutionized the education system around the world. The concept of interactive learning through watching education videos and playing education applications is no more some future story. Children can easily surf the internet if they want to search something about a topic and get the resolution in a few minutes.

As the coin has two sides so does the advent of smartphones. There are some disadvantages associated with them. They are costly and people tend to lack social interaction by staying busy all day on their mobile phones only. It has made people addicted to them and not care about the surroundings at all. These devices also emit radio frequency energy which can be absorbed by the tissues in the body. They also  produce HEV light which can damage your eyes’ retina.Sleep deprivation is also one of the common bad effects of using smartphones.There are a lot of privacy threats associated with phones due to the hackers present around. There is also no censor on the data available online and some of it might not be suitable for kids to read or listen.

So we can say that judicious and controlled use of smartphone sis the need of the hour. We need to manage our time with its usage and not fall prey to the technological advancements.
