How does a computer know when to send packets to the default gateway?
Dear Studen,
Here is the answer...
When you turn on your computer. It will first detect the network available as WiFi Network or Ethernet connection( or Wired Network). An a protocol called DHCP(Dynamic Host Control Protocol) is used to assigned the IP address to your Compuet/Laptop.
So first you must know some terms...

What is the working of default gateway..?
A default gateway acts as an intermediate device that connects your computer to the Internet or a default gateway in computer networking is the node that is assumed to know how to forward packets on to other networks.
How does a computer know when to send the packets to the default gateway...?
In Computer Networking How do computers decide to where to send the packets to? Should they send them directly to the target computers, the gateway, or both?
So here is the answer...
If the Destination IP packet points to a network different than your network, then it sent the packets to the default gateway rather than to the computer directly.
If the destination IP is from another network, the host Computer checks its routing table to find the gateway for that network. In most cases, this will be a default router. Once the host computer knows the router that is the gateway for the destination network, it sends an ARP(address resolution protocol) for the router's MAC address. After receiving this, it will then send the traffic needed to the router's mac address and the router will furtehr sends the packets to destination address.
I hope this might be helpful for you..

How does a computer know when to send packets to the default gateway?
Explain the two ways to give a computer an IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway.
How does computer compute numbers? when adding 2+3 how does it know its 5? I know there are algorithms but I need to understand how the raw machine calculate it
If a wireless card can send packets, why can't it inject packets? All have to do to inject a packet is create a raw socket, construct a packet with the spoofed headers and then send the packet through the raw socket. This would require root/admin on most operating systems, but it would still be possible. Some people give the argument that both reading/injection have to be happening simultaneously but you could just receive packets, parse data, stop reading and inject...
What happens when the packets sent from a computer (at the application layer) reach various network nodes – local computers, remote computers, local attached routers/switches, remote routers/switches, hubs, etc.? Please discuss what network nodes of different types know about the application file being transmitted (based on what information is provided in the header at the OSI layer at which that node operates) at each level of reassembly (i.e., viewing the frame packet only, reassembling frame packets to recreate the IP...
e these system specifications consistent? "The router can send packets to the edge system only if it supports the new address space. For the router to support the new address space it is necessary that the latest software release be installed. The router can send packets to the edge system if the latest software release is installed. The router does not support the new address space."

PING: Finding Other Computers The PING sends a small packet to any computer on the Internet to show you how long it takes the packet to travel from your computer to the target computer and back again. You can ping a computer using its IP address or Web URL Not all computers respond to ping commands, so not every computer you ping will answer. Start by pinging your default gateway: just type PING followed by the IP address of your...
Assume a sender's network stack sends packets with the time-to-live field set at 128 by default. While traversing the network, packets go through three routers and two switches before arriving at the receiver. What is the TTL field set to when the packets arrive at the receiver/ 0125 0123 0 131 133
Given three packets of size 1500 bytes each are ready inside Computer 1 to be transmitted onto Link 1. Computer 1 has zero processing delay. Assume each router has zero queuing and zero processing delay. Link 1 is a 10 Mbit/sec link and 5000 km long. Link 2 is 100 Mbits/sec and is 5000 km long. Link 3 is 1000 Mbits/sec and is 5000 km long. Propagation speed is 2 × 10 8 m/s. Assume a router has to receive...
