  • Particularly in the mass spectroscopy a molecule to forms a positive molecular ion.
  • Molecular ion peak gives an idea about the molecular mass of the compounds.
  • For example, in the mass spectrum of pentane (C5H12), the molecular ion has an m/z value of 72 in mass spectrum.
