Answer #1

7a) The standard deck of cards contain 4 suits , each suits contains Ace, King , Queen , Jack, 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2 from high to low value

There are 4*4=16 cards of value 5 or low (2,3,4,5)

and 52-16 = 36 card greater than 5

Let X be the value of drawn card , Y be the money won

X Y P(Y)
5 or less 60 16/52=0.3077
Greater than 5 -23 36/52=0.6923

2.

E(Y) = yP()

= 60*0.3077 +(-23)*0.6023

= 2.54

Expected value =2.54

3.

Variance = Σy?P(g) - ΣyP(y)))

= 60^2*0.3077+(0.23)^2*0.6023 -2.54^2

= 1467.5

Standard deviation = Variance

= 38.31

4. expected win for single game $2.54

Since the value is positive , we consider its a win

For 50 games , expected value of win = 50*$2.54

=$126.96
