Name Brochunn Obelley Lab Section Sexual Reproduction and Inheritance Worksheet Exercise 1 The cells beginning meiosis have a

Meiosis is a cell division which lead to the division of the sex or gametic cells. In meiosis, it goes through two round of division which initially starts with a diploid gametic cell that consist of 46 pair of chromosomes or 96 chromosomes. Before entering meiosis-I, cell grows during the G1 phase and all its chromosome replicates during the S-phase and the division process is prepared during the G2 phase. In the meiosis I, the cells divide and become haploid and have 23 pairs of chromosome. This is followed by meiosis II which further divides the cells and form 4 haploid gametic cells which are different from their parent cell genetically.

Unit 3 Study Resource Meiosis • Process by which diploid cells create haploid cells NOT part of the cell cycle > only some cells ever undergo meiosis During meiosis I, homologous chromosomes line up to allow them to be separated into two new cells o They can become "tangled" during this phase, which leads to crossing-over (rearranging the alleles) O Result of meiosis I is two non-identical haploid cells Meiosis Il looks very similar to mitosis, in that sister chromatids...
