Although everything appears to be working just fine, you hear a loud whining noise coming from the computer. What is the likely cause of the noise?

Well if the computer appears to be working fine with no discernible effect on its performance, this may be a heating issue. This is the case when the computer is making a whirring sound. In this case, its almost definitely the fan.

The fan may be working harder than it should to dissipate the excess heat. Maybe the dust could be blocking up the internal components of the computer. There are specific cans that are available at computer stores that are designed to deal with exactly this issue.

On the other hand, if the computer is making a beeping noise or you can sense some kind of pattern in the sounds being emitted, it may be a drive problem. You may want to make a backup of all your data and get your device looked at a by a professional if you are not sure you can handle it. In most such cases, the disk needs to be replaced or repaired.
