The reason for this is that 1 glucose produces 2 acetylCoA -- so, obtaining the overall reaction for CAC starting with 2 acetylCoA is an important part of calculating the yield of ATP equivalents per glucose in carbohydrate catabolism.

2. Once you have obtained the overall reaction (as stated in part 1., above) answer this: For 2 acetylCoA, how many NADH are generated in the CAC? how many FADH2? how many ATP? Now, how many ATP (per 2 acetylCoA) are generated if you feed the NADH and FADH2 from the citric acid cycle into oxidative phosphorylation?

the over all reaction for citric acid cycle is( for 2 acetyl CoA)

6NAD+ + 2FAD + 2GDP + 2Pi + 2acetyl-CoA → 6NADH + 2FADH2 + 2GTP + 2CoA + 4CO2.

2. for 2 acetyl CoA - 6 NADH is produced.

for 2 acetyl CoA- 2 FADH2 IS PRODUCED.

AND 2 ATP/GTP is fromed. (GTP and ATP are interconvertible.)

from 1 NADH- 3 ATP are produced.

1 FADH- 2ATP are produced.
