In the heating curve of water, the vertical axis represents temperature. So, 1 = Temperature.
Horizontal axis represented heat supplied. So, 2 = Heat added .
In the graph, the regions 4 and 6 are parallel to x - axis. In these regions , there is no increase in temperature with addition of heat. This happens during phase change ( melting, boiling, condensation, freezing). The addition of heat is used up to overcome the intermolecular forces and melt or boil. so , the temperature won't increase .
Thus, 4 = Melting <-> Freezing. ( Or solid + liquid , or ice + water, since during this process, both ice and water coexist)
6 = Boiling <-> condensation ( or liquid + gas, or water + water vapour)
3, 5 and 7 will represent the state of water.
