Answer #1

In CAM (Crassulacean Acid Metabolism) plants, stomata is closed during day time to conserve water. Plants employing CAM are common in arid environment. During the night, stomata of CAM plants remain open allowing CO2 to enter and be fixed as organic acids by a PEP reaction. The resulting organic acids are stored in vacuoles for later use. During day time, stomata close to conserve water and CO2 storing organic acids are released from the vacuoles of mesophyll cells.

Therefore, the answer for this question is :- fix CO2 into organic acids during night.

How does this minimize water loss by such plants? How does this minimize water loss by such plants? A. CAM plants are able to fix CO2 and accumulate carbon in the form of organic acids during the night, when the loss of water through open stomata thereby is minimized. During the day, when solar energy is available but the potential for water loss is highest, CAM plants close their stomata and channel carbon from malate into the Calvin cycle. B....

    5. Photosynthetic adaptations to extreme environments Aa Aa Rubisco carries out photorespiration when the ratio of O2 to CO2 is too high. As a result, certain plants have adaptations meant to keep this ratio low in tissue locations where their photosynthetic cells need to use Rubisco. The following image describes how when these two sets of events occu plants prevent photorespiration. Desert plants absorb CO2 at night (stomata are closed during the day to prevent water from leaving the plant). CO2 is converted into malate, which is stored in vacuoles until morning. Why would plants not be able to directly store CO2 inside of vacuoles?

    10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
