A molecule is said to be polar if there is a slight charge seperation along the bond. Usually it polarity is found if the electronegativity between th atoms is high. In case of homoatomic molecule, all the atoms are same and have the same electronegativity and so no polarity along the bond. Thus they are non-polar in nature.
The charge seperation will be in such a way that the more electronegative atom will pull the electrons involved in the bond towards it and pocess a negative charge and the other atom gets the positive charge.
Part B, C both are homopatomic and hence non-polar.
Part A second one is the option where O has slight negative charge and C has slight positive charge.
Part D also second one is the ans where Br has slight negative charge and H has slight positive charge.

For each polar molecule, choose the molecule and indicate the positive and negative ends of the dipole moment. Part A: CO CEO CEO nonpolar Part B: 02 6+6- O=0 8+S- 0=0 nonpolar Part C: F2 6+6- F-F 6+6- F-F nonpolar Part D: HBO 6+6- H-Br 6-6+ H-B nonpolar
For each molecule, select the drawing that indicates the positive and negative ends of the dipole moment if the molecule is polar or specify the molecule as nonpolar Part A: 12 6+6- o 8+6- The molecule is nonpolar. Part B: NO 6+8- N=0 6-6+ N=0 The molecule is nonpolar. Part C: HCI 6+6- OH-CI → 8-8+ OH-CI o The molecule is nonpolar. Part D: N2 6+6- ONEN 8+8- NEN The molecule is nonpolar.
How do you determine whether a molecule is polar? Choose all that apply. Determine whether the molecule has resonance structures. Determine whether the molecule contains nonpolar bonds. Draw the Lewis structure for the molecule and determine the molecular geometry. Determine whether the polar bonds add together to form a net dipole moment. Determine whether the molecule contains polar bonds.

Decide whether each molecule or polyatomic ion is polar or nonpolar, If the molecule or polyatomic ion is polar, write the chemical symbol of the atom closest to the negative side. For example, if the molecule were HCl and you decided the hydrogen atom was closest to the negative side of the molecule, you'd enter "H" in the last column of the table.

Use the table of electronegativity to identity polar bonds in the molecules. Indicate any polar bonds with appropriate arrows (and if there is no dipole moment, leave the target blank), and identify the molecule as polar or nonpolar.
