Bipolar depression is condition in which a person experiences extremes of mood swings i.e. emotional highs feels euphoric, is full of energy or is unusually irritable. The person may at other time feel depressed, sad or hopeless, with a loss of interest or pleasure in most activities. These mood swings lead to issues of; sleep, energy, activity, judgment, behavior and the ability for thinking clearly. The causes may be genetic predisposition or biological differences as people with bipolar disorder have physical changes in their brain apparently. Treatment, involves medication such as lithium carbonate and valproic acid and therapy (MayoClinic).
