Here in this scenario we have to calculate the Confidence Interval for population mean based on the sample information. Here notice that the population standard deviations is unknown.
To calculate the Confidence Interval for population mean we have to use t distribution because the population standard deviations is unknown but according to the central limit theorem we can use z distribution when the sample size is large enough.
In this scenario we can also use z distribution to calculate the Confidence Interval for population mean we also get same result.
Further we computed the 95% Confidence Interval for population mean using both methods t distribution and using z distribution.
The z critical value is calculated using Standerd normal z-table or using Excel and t critical value is calculated using t table or using Excel.
We noticed that the Confidence Interval in both methods are approximately same. So as sample size is large enough we can use z distribution according to central limit theorem.
Interpretation :
We are 95% Confident that the population mean is occupied by given Interval is 18.214 and 19.386.
Thank you.

6. A recent poll asked 700 Americans. “How many books did you read in the last year? Results of the poll indicated that t= 12 books and s = 8 books. (a) Construct a 99% confidence interval for the number of books read. (b) Suppose the standard deviation of 8 books is the population standard deviation instead of the sample standard deviation). What would be the confidence interval in that case?
A recent Gallup poll asked 1006 Americans, “During the past year, about how many books, either hardcover or paperback, did you read either all or part of the way through?” Results of the survey indicated that x = 13.4 books and s = 16.6 books. Construct a 99% confidence interval for the mean number of books that Americans read either all or part of during the preceding year. NOTE: ROUND ANSWERS TO TWO DECIMAL PLACES.
