Ans. Soil moisture potential,soil moisture diffusivity, water diffusivity of the seed and soil interface characteristics are the important characteristics that affect seed germination.

Optimum soil temperature and soil moisture conditions are required for favourable germination. In the field an ideal combination of soil temperature and soil moisture rarely occurs. If the moisture is too high moisture tention inhibits the imbibition of seeds
