Basically, you have to "spread evenly" the cost of copyright over its useful life if the straight-line method is used to amortize the cost. In this case, you recognize 60,000 amortization a year (300,000/5 years). Please see in explanation part for the solution.

 

Additionally, you would need to record an adjusting journal entry to record the annual amortization of the copyright as follows:

Debit: Amortization expense              60,000

Credit:     Accumulated Amortization              60,000
