Answer #1

1.There are two distinct ways to cut materials when milling: Up Milling and Down Milling. The difference between these two techniques is the relationship of the rotation of the cutter to the direction of feed. In Conventional Milling or Up milling, the cutter rotates against the direction of the feed. During Climb Milling or Down milling, the cutter rotates with the feed.

2. In Up milling ,the chip formed by each cutter tooth starts out very thin and increases in thickness during the sweep of the cutter.

  • Tool rubs more at the beginning of the cut, leading to faster tool wear and decreases tool life.
  • Chips are carried upward by the tooth and fall in front of cutter creating a marred finish and re-cutting of chips.

Here, option (a) Upmilling is correct

: Rotation : clip thickness begins at Zero and increases

A face-milling operation is being carried out on a 320-mm-long, 110-mm-wide, 50-mm thick annealed mild- steel block. The cutter follows a path that is centred over the workpiece and is applied on the top surface where it reduces the part thickness into 44mm. It has four teeth and is 150 mm in diameter. Cutting speed = 132 m/min, and chip load = 0.23 mm/tooth. Determine: Maximum metal removal rate during milling metal removal rate = _______________ ( ) Machining time...
