a) Let T be the cost of tuition for h credit hours

Now , we have to find equation of linear model for the given situation. We know that an linear model has equation of the form

T=mh+c ............(1)

Where m is slope and c is constant

Now given condition , the tuition at triton college is $882 for 9 credit hours of classes

So, equation (1) becomes

882=m9+c .........(2)

Also given that $1176 for 12 credit hours of classes. So, equation (1) becomes

1176=m(12)+c..........(3)

1176=12m+c

c=1176-12m........(4)

Put c from (4) in 2, we get

882=9m+1176-12m

882-1176=-12m+9m

-294=-3m

3m=294

m=98............(5)

From equation (5) put the value of m in(4)

c=1176-12(98)

c=1176-1176

c=0.....(6)

From (5) and (6) in equation (1) , we have

T=98h+0

T=98h

Hence, equation of linear model is T=98h

b) we have to re-write the above equation using the function name f(i.e. cost of tuition) and let the variable be x (i.e credit hours of classes)

So, replace T by f(x) and h by x .then,

T=98h becomes f(x) =98x

Hence re-written equation using function f is f(x) = 98x.
