She is having a difficult time keeping solids and liquids down, and has become severely dehydrated. After fainting at work, she was taken to a local clinic, where an IV was placed to help rehydrate her. Her coworkers reported they were worried about her shallow respiration as they revived her from the faint. • What would you predict the woman's acid-base status to be? . What is the origin of her acid-base state? • How does the patient's condition lead to their acid-base disturbance? Be as specific as you can about the source of the disturbance. • Is the woman compensating for the disturbance? If so, how? • Please construct a Davenport diagram for this patient, including CO2 isoclines, the blood buffer line, the normal point, and the point for your patient corresponding to your diagnosis above. • Metabolic alkalosis occur when blood pH raised above 7.45
• In this case chloride responsibe acid base balance is occurred due to loss of hydrogen ions by vomiting and dehydration. There will be increased concentration of bicarbonate ions in blood.
• The body compensate the mechanism by shallow breathing allow more CO2 to retain this CO2 react with water to form carbonic acid and decrease pH called respiratory compensation.
