What does optimal foraging theory predict about an animal’s foraging behavior? What factors unrelated to this theory may also influence an animal’s foraging choices?
Optimal foraging theory (OFT) is a behavioral ecology model that helps predict how an animal behaves when searching for food. Although obtaining food provides the animal with energy, searching for and capturing the food require both energy and time. To maximize fitness, an animal adopts a foraging strategy that provides the most benefit (energy) for the lowest cost, maximizing the net energy gained. OFT helps predict the best strategy that an animal can use to achieve this goal.
OFT is an ecological application of the optimality model. This theory assumes that the most economically advantageous foraging pattern will be selected for in a species through natural selection.[1] When using OFT to model foraging behavior, organisms are said to be maximizing a variable known as the currency, such as the most food per unit time. In addition, the constraints of the environment are other variables that must be considered. Constraints are defined as factors that can limit the forager's ability to maximize the currency. The optimal decision rule, or the organism's best foraging strategy, is defined as the decision that maximizes the currency under the constraints of the environment. Identifying the optimal decision rule is the primary goal of the OFT.

The Theory of Reasoned Action and Theory of Planned Behavior is anchored on Intention and Efficacy as indicators for complying with the recommended behavior. However, intention and behavior do not always translate to behavior. Give three (3) factors that may influence intention and three (3) factors that influence efficacy. Explain how these factors contribute to why intention and efficacy may not translate to behavior. 2. The Theory of Reasoned Action and Theory of Planned Behavior is anchored on Intention and...

Hello, I did a lab about the foraging behavior of fruit flies (Drosophila melanogaster). Where an experiment was conducted to see whether fruit flies (starved for 12 hours, only water was given) would prefer Real Banana V.S. Banana-flavoured Sucrose. The results I got were 88 picked banana, 23 picked banana sucrose and 29 picked both. The hypothesis I stated is that there is NO difference in foraging behavior of flies but that is obviously incorrect, ---------- SO HERES MY QUESTIONS...
Eating behavior can be influenced by a wide range of factors. The smell, sight, or taste of food can stimulate appetite. Food choices may also be affected by social settings, cultural traditions, and emotional state. Which is an example of a cultural influence on food choice? Food choices may also be affected by social settings, cultural traditions, and emotional...
Hormones can also influence an animal’s “motivation” to engage in a particular behavior. Discuss how an experimental study of “appetitive behavior” in male Japanese quail illustrates this concept. As part of your answer be sure to explain specifically how testosterone is involved. For the above example, describe in detail how the experiment was performed. Be sure to explain what control group was included in the study, and explain what that group was controlling “for” and why it was important to...
How does the Newton’s theory about light predict the speed of light in the medium denser than the air? What is the reality?
The traditional theory of optimal capital structure states that firms trade off corporate interest tax shields against the possible costs of financial distress due to borrowing. What does this theory predict about the relationship between book profitability and target book debt ratios? Is the theory’s prediction consistent with the facts?
8. What factors influence the spending behavior of the different sectors of the economy?
1) What are the components of Organizational Commitment? a. What does it mean to have high Affective Commitment vs. Continuance Commitment vs. Normative Commitment? b. What outcomes are each of the commitment components related to (e.g., turnover, citizenship behavior, etc.) and how (positive vs. negative)? c. What factors influence the different commitment components and what can organizations due to impact the different components of commitment? 2) The textbook talked about how organizations can rely on social network analyses to predict...
