A Train station has two ports, port one and port two. The service times for one and two are exponential with rates 20 minutes and 10 minutes, respectively. The port 1 is occupied by train A, but port 2 is free at 9:00. Train B comes to the train station at 9:00. Find the probability that train A finishes its service first.

This is a stocchastic modeling queing problem. I am not quite sure whereto start though.

175-5.* A service station has one gasoline pump. Cars wanting gasoline arrive according to a Poisson process at a mean rate of 15 per hour. However, if the pump already is heing used, these po- tential customers may balk (drive on to another service station). In particular, if there are n cars already at the service station, the prob- ability that an arriving potential customer will balk is n/3 for n 1. 2, 3. The time required to service a...

Question 2 A fast-food franchise is considering operating a drive-up window food-service operation. Assume that customer arrivals follow a Poisson probability distribution, with an arrival rate of 24 cars per hour, and that service times follow an exponential probability distribution. Arriving customers place orders at an intercom station at the back of the parking lot and then drive to the service window to pay for and receive their orders. The following three service alternatives are being considered: A single-channel operation...

There was no question about Carl’s genius. Seven years ago he decided to enter the competitive nightmare that the personal computer business had become. Although on the surface that appeared to be a rather non-genius-like move, the genius came in the unique designs and features that he developed for his computer. He also figured a way to promise delivery in only two days for the local and regional market. Other computer makers also had rapid production and delivery, but they...

HDT Truck Company HDT Truck Company has been located in Crown Point, Indiana, since 1910. Its only products— large trucks—are built to individual customer specifications. The firm once produced automobiles but dropped out of the auto business in 1924.
