In an RNA nucleotide, the base binds to

the 5' carbon of ribose, which has a hydroxyl attached to its 2' carbon.

the 3' carbon of ribose, which has a hydroxyl attached to its 2' carbon.

the 1' carbon of ribose, which has a hydroxyl attached to its 2' carbon.

the 5' carbon of ribose, which doesn't have a hydroxyl attached to its 2' carbon.

the 3' carbon of ribose, which doesn't have a hydroxyl attached to its 2' carbon.

Answer #1

The RNA or Ribonucleic acid is one of two types of nucleic acid found in nature in addition to DNA (Deoxyribomucleic acid). The nitrogenous base is attached to the 1-C of sugar unit, which has a hydroxyl group attached on the 2' carbon.

Hence, the correct option is (c)

About the incorrect options-

The base is not attached to 3' or 5' carbon, also they are attached to 1'-carbon of ribose which did not have hydroxyl group attached at 2' carbon

Hope it helps, Good luck !!!
