Anesthesia Codes: They are used to report anesthesia services supervised by a physician. Two types of modifiers are used with anesthesia.
They are as follows :
(a) Physical status modifiers
(b) Standard modifiers
Physical status modifier codes to indicate a patient's health status. There are six types of physical status modifiers indicated with the letter P and numerals starting from 1 to 6
P1 - Healthy normal patient
P2- Patient with mild systemic diseases
P3- Patient with severe systemic diseases
P4- Patient with severe systemic disease that is a constant threat to life
P5- Moribund patient who is not expected to survive without the operation
P6- Declared brain-dead patient whose organs are being removed for donation purposes.
