cyotoxic T cells are most likely to recognize and attack cancerous cell exposing changed antigen on its cell surface. cytotoxic T cells are capable of imparting host defence against cytosolic pathogens like viruses. cytotoxic T cells can kill any cell having such pathogen by identifying foreign peptide or antigen being expressed on the cell surface.

Cytotoxic cells are known to destroy infected cells by inducing apoptosis mediated by two cytosolic proteins; granzymes and perforin.

granzymes induce direct apoptosis where as perforin makes a pore in the cell so as to enable granzyme to enter cell and distruct infected cell.
