The future looks much like a sci-fi movie in our imagination: fast-paced, high-tech, and highly efficient. The presence of various industries of emerging technologies such as machine learning and AI means that many workers will be redefined in the future by technology. Nonetheless, in the next 20 years, most businesses are expected to be fully digitized. Innovations can allow employees and employers to better connect and collaborate with each other as technology advances. Integrated business models will therefore continue to reshape sets of skills. Harvard Business Review estimates that a digital strategy is in motion for 90% of major business sectors. But the quick pace of change creates a gap in expertise, stopping most businesses from moving faster. As a result, skill sets need to be tailored for new, flexible ways of working across the country — and globe — and leaders need to satisfy these demands. Seven qualities executives will need to continue to embrace and learn to be effective over the next 20 years.
Neither work sector will be left exposed to the impact of innovation. Even though we will not see a massive revolution to our workplaces with AI and machine learning suddenly, software will be widely used. Managers will need to understand technology correctly and take advantage of their data management challenges and opportunities, job and skill development, organizational responsibilities, and confidentiality to name a few areas of concern. Managers currently spend 54 percent of their time on administrative tasks, but since AI systems are able to organize and produce documents and plan meetings, managers can spend more time focusing on more demanding business efforts. When technology changes, administrators will need to educate themselves on new operating systems constantly so that they can keep up with changing problems. Although they may not be purely technical roles, as non-technical experts they will need to know how to work with AI systems to help their workers develop these tasks. Managers will need to be a consistent, balanced variable in an ever-changing landscape as they embrace new technology and become experienced at changing trends in the workforce.
Emotional intelligence is expected to become a more influential aspect of corporate values over the next 20 years. A high level of emotional awareness means that workers are self-conscious and therefore understand their strengths and weaknesses. Managers not only need to have the correct assessment of soft skills, but they also need to seek assistance from peers or friends to recognize emotionally intelligent individuals. Those with lower EQs tend to have more patience for their customers and better understand their rivals ' attitude. A recent study by the University of Virginia Commonwealth shows that emotionally intelligent employees are more effective in performing jobs
Technology can help us to change for ourselves and the environment for work activities that are safer. When executives learn the ropes of new gadgets such as AI and machine learning, they will also develop more effective strategies that combine intuition, critical thinking, and innovation to better business processes and organizational environments. In an increasingly integrated, fast-paced society, the blue-collar and white-collar sectors will have to change and work more flexible, collaboratively, and publicly.
