Answer #1

Ans. As they say, “it takes a village to raise a child,” and that statement really is true – family members can provide support and encouragement, or even occasionally assist with childcare to give parents a much-needed break.

Advantages and disadvantages of cohabiting with family

Advantage:

Living together can give you a chance to have meals together, share your sorrows and happiness with people you care. One of the primary benefits of living with a family is that it reduces one’s financial strain as its more affordable option when the whole family shares it together. One can save a lot of money, like saving on rent, utility bills, renovations, shared grocery bills, and a lot more. Especially if one is out of a job and struggling to pay debts, or if facing financial problems, living with parents could be the right solution. It then acts as a stopgap arrangement until one gets back on his feet. Living in a multigenerational setting means there are a lot more hands to do the work. One doesn’t have much housework since there will be more people to pitch in the daily chores. As a working professional or a busy student, one may not always have time to fix himself a homemade meal. Living with parents usually comes with the added benefit of enjoying warm, home-cooked meals even when one doesn't have the time to cook. Besides being cheaper and more convenient, another advantage of living with parents is that there is a sense of continuity and familiarity. The house is probably the one where a child grew up in, one is familiar with the neighbourhood. It gives a satisfaction because the closer one is the parents, the more chances he will get to help them, too.

Disadvantages:

Living with the parents will strip one’s space and privacy, and that can be a psychological burden, especially if one is used to living alone. One can't expect that parents will not enter the room since it belongs to them. One has to forget about hosting parties. Neither a cosy get-together of one’s college buddies nor drinks with colleagues after work will be doable if one is living with mom or dad. One is likely to receive all kinds of advice, even if not asked for it. Be prepared to get a lot of unsolicited advice and judgment for just about everything. The inevitable disadvantage of living with parents is that people might make fun because there is still a lingering social stigma that comes along with it. There is no escaping the negative stereotype and one should prepare oneself for a negative opinion every now and then, especially from people of older generations. There are a lot of tough lessons and curve balls that life throws, and learning to catch them is part of growing up. By living with parents, one is shielding himself not only from hardships, but also from the lessons life has to offer. The longer one lives with parents, the more one tends to delay entering the property market himself. And prices will probably only be going higher. No matter how old one gets, one is will likely to be seen as a child, especially if he still lives in the same house where one lived in when a child.
