Define cultural deviance theories and the ways that sociologists theorize how neighborhoods influence individual behavior.  How the cultural deviance theories can/cannot be of help to inform our juvenile justice policies.  

In this weeks chapter that we read you will find the various theories and along side that you will see Classical theory and nature vs nuture social environments, education, social conditioning. All these things are a huge factor with our young minds. One of the things that is now being taken into consideration is the capability of a young mind that isn't even fully developed. YAAAAH!!!!!! took us long enough to get here !!!!!!

In our NYC news we are seeing that they are taking our young people of Rikers Island and placing them in the care of ACS, who hopefully have social workers and trained people to deal with the outbursts and the care of these young people.  

Our children are born bigger and smarter than ever before, but......BUT they are still equipped with a juvenile brain, a brain that is not at all fully developed.  

I believe every case especially our young people needs to be taken as individually as much as possible. Sometimes I feel that our soceity sees certain characteristics and does the labeling of our youth.  

Discussion: The six focal concerns, discuss how you feel about it, also has this always been in place through history, as youth haven’t changed just the ideas on how to treat them??? Why do you think some youth conform to rules and others go in the other direction?

Miller brings out the six major characteristics of youth such as trouble, toughness, smartness, excitement, fate and autonomy. Young age is characterized by impulsive behaviors, risk taking mind-set and adventure seeking attitude. They would normally rebel against the elders which is a common characteristic in all the society but the way elders treat them in return would determine whether they would repeat this behavior or not. This would mean people who live in different socio-economic status and cultural background would determine how they would do it. Youngsters are influenced by their environment such as parenting, culture, religion and their education. This means people who are oppressed would be more prone to non-conformity and people who have a better parenting and more family bonding would normally follow.
