You designed an intervention to help people lose weight. Ten people will meet with you for 8 weeks to learn tips for healthy eating, physical fitness, and stress management. You will be measuring their weight to determine the effectiveness of the program. Ten other people will not receive the intervention (so they won’t meet with you for 8 weeks), but you will still measure their weight.

  1. First, design a posttest-only study design to examine the effectiveness of your intervention. Be sure to explain a) how people are assigned into groups, b) what’s the experimental group, c) what’s the control group, d) when is the measurement of the variable of interest, and e) what exactly are you measuring at that time point(s).

Answer #1

a). how people are assigned into groups

evenly divided into two groups. In the experimental group Ten people will meet with you for 8 weeks to learn tips for healthy eating, physical fitness, and stress management. You will be measuring their weight to determine the effectiveness of the program. Ten other people will not receive the intervention  After the comparison of age and weight between both groups, it was found that the data difference was not significant, with P>0.05. Therefore, we can use these data for comparison.

b) what’s the experimental group

for one group the experiment is Weight, waist circumference, chest circumference, hip circumference, skinfold thickness, endurance test, strength test, and flexibility of all research objects were tested. Then the experimental group took aerobic exercise and the other group only take measuring .

after that Various examinations including weight, BMI, body fat, and waist-to-hip ratio are given to all objects with body content analyzer. Lance clamp crease instrument is used to measure the TSF, SBS, and abdominal skinfold thickness. Blood examine index: Before exercise, 5 ml venous blood of all objects is obtained in the resting state. The automatic biochemical analyzer was used to test the TG, TC, HDL-C, and LDL-C of all objects

The physiological and biochemical indicators of both groups before and after experiment were observed.

c) what’s the control group,

this is the group with this analysis of weight change in control groups, trials had to have a minimal contact control arm, which ranged from no intervention to multiple contacts with someone without specific training in weight management

  1. Single weight management session including discussion/advice/counseling ±self‐help material; or

  2. Seeing a professional (e.g., general practitioner [GP], practice nurse) without specific training in delivering weight management advice and without a defined program to follow, more than once for weight management, ± self‐help material.

this is the control group

d) when is the measurement of the variable of interest,

The differences were statistically significant, with P<0.05. The effect of the experimental group was significantly better than the control group. The weight loss and physical and mental health condition of the experimental group were better than the control group. The difference was significant, with P<0.05.

e) what exactly are you measuring at that time point(s).

Uncontrolled evaluations of weight loss programs should assume that, in the absence of intervention, their population would weigh up to a kilogram on average less than baseline at the end of the first year of follow‐up exercise shows good effect on the weight loss of female college students, with promoting their physical and mental health. The significant effect of exercise makes it worth clinical promotion.
