Answer #1

Flood routing is the method of generating the flood hydrograph at a section of a river by using the upstream side flood data.

It is carried out by:

  1. Hydraulic Flood Routing
  2. Hydrologic Flood Routing

Hydraulic Flood Routing:

  1. Complex but very accurate.
  2. Uses Continuity Equation and St. Venant's equation of motion of unsteady gradually varied flow.
  3. Flow is calculated as a function of space and time throughout the system.

Hydrologic Flood Routing:

  1. Simple but approximate.
  2. Uses only Continuity Equation.
  3. Flow is calculated as a function of time at a particular location.
