Medication Assisted treatment MAT is the administration of drugs and medication along with counseling and modification behavioral therapies. It is usually used for the treatment of substance abuse disorders.
In Medication assisted treatment, drugs like anti-craving medicinesuch as naltrexone (Vivitrol), buprenorphine (Suboxone) or methadone is prescribed along with comprehensive therapy and support — to help address issues related to opioid dependence, including withdrawal, cravings and relapse prevention.
Evidences states that these treatment method has successfully proved it's efficiency in overcoming addiction and maintaining long term recovery.
