Answer #1

4) In organic chemistry, oxidation refers to the addition of oxygen or removal of hydrogen. While reduction refers to addtition of hydrogen or removal of oxygen.

We take example of ethanal to show both oxidation and reduction.

ethanal undergoes reduction in presence of LiAlH4 to give ethanol.

CH3CHO +2H - CH3CH OH

ethanal undergoes oxidation in presence of K₂Cr₂O₇ to give ethanoic acid

2СН2СНО +о, косу, 2CHCOOH
