Answer #1

The coercive acts were also called the Intolerable acts, The basic reason was that the Patriot colonist joined together with the sons of liberty who destroyed about 340 chest of Tea in Boston & Massachusetts &this was named the Boston Tea Party. therefore the British parliament passed these acts in 1774 subjecting to the Britain's colonies in North America & as a reprisal for the rebellion against the 1773 tea act that led to the Boston Tea Act that led to the Boston Tea Party protest. These laws were mainly brought forward to punish the Massachusetts colonist & confrontation in the Tea party protest & to change the taxation Imposed by the British that caused harm to colonial goods. It was expected that these acts would help to maintain to unite the colonies & control the people in America but the effect gave a negative response, The people thought that these acts would take away their freedom thus masses moved to the side of revolution.

The main five acts were : I) Boston port act .2) The Massachusetts Government act 3) The Administration of justice act 4) Quartering Act 5) Quebec Act .

1) Boston port act : This act was passed to give punishment to the city of Boston for the Boston Tea Party, as the ports of Boston were closed for the ships till the colonist paid taxes for the placement of tea in the harbor .People thought that this was a crime as the people had to sent their goods to Boston.

2) Massachusetts Government Act : This act changed the Government of Massachusetts as ,more powers were provided to Governor appointed by the British as compared to the colonists. Many government official were made to be elected for the post of governor & stated that the town meetings would be conducted once a year only this statement angered the masses that if this point is introduced in Boston then they may also get it introduced in the colonies too.

3) The Administration of justice Act : Mainly this act allowed the governor to move the trials against government official to Great Britain. By this act the people thought that much protection were provided to government officials , as for the witness factor the people had to travel to Britain for the purpose.

Thus all these acts were described as intolerable acts.

The answers to second question is similar to the first one , the points are mentioned.
