Introduce yourself briefly and share your reasons for taking this course. In addition, be sure to include any experience you have in designing or querying databases.

Today, we benefit from databases, and many people never know it. Workday content management systems maintain database records of our employment information, salaries, and benefits. This database information is then easily accessed by employees. Amazon.com maintains database records of purchase histories, including dates and amounts paid, making returns easy. Even phones contain databases of contacts. For your initial post, research your own databases (other than the examples provided) and make note of at least two of these databases that you might use. From the standpoint of an end user, what do you like and dislike about each database?

Answer #1

Introduce yourself and your post it isn't mentioned but I can answer other parts.

Database is collection of files and files is collection of records.

A record can be seen as data of one particular data Item.

In earlier times hardcopy files were used but with the emergence of better technologies and industries the data has grown so vast that it can't be handled in papers.

DBMS is responsible for maintaining databases.

In Workday content management systems , the database will consist of various tables(relations), having columns(attributes) and rows(records). The Attributes can be employee name,salary,benfits,age etc but the tables are created on the bases of functional dependencies of attributes as if we will include all attributes in 1 table it will be very huge and not easy to read so there are Normalisations done on tables to break them into small tables.

Amazon.com every hour sells many products and the site itself holds so many products so product id, value, name , price,seller's info etc. and the item sold, time,discount,shipping addresses and all required information is maintained.

Likes about database:

organises data;

easy to access,insert,delete,update;

various integrity constraints to make data reliable and so on.

Dislikes:

there aren't any but to create tables,arrange data you should have good knowledge of the subject.
