eggPiece of iron is a collection of domains in which fictitious small magnets are randomly oriented. If we applied mmf then all the that small magnets in domains aligned along the magnetic field applied by mmf.

All the confusion will be cleared by posted picture.

In picture 1, all the fictitious small magnets are randomly oriented as "in any material electrons are randomly in motion". When we applied an external magnetic field or mmf, all magnets in the domain are oriented along the magnetic field.

They behave like series of magnets, as shown in figure 3.

Corner most magnets left-hand side having a south pole and right-hand side will be north pole. All others will behave like cancel out magnetic fields.
