Therapeutic index : The ratio between the dosage of a drug that causes a lethal effect and the dosage that causes a therapeutic effect.

The ratio between the toxic dose and the therapeutic dose of a drug, used as a measure of the relative safety of the drug for a particular treatment.

Narrow therapeutic index drugs are defined as those drugs where. small differences in dose or blood concentration may lead to dose and blood concentration dependent, serious therapeuticfailures or adverse drug reactions.
