Positives:

Interoperability between Different Applications: Web Services permits various applications to communicate with each other and share data, services(logic).Ex. Java and .Net applications can communicate with each other using web services.

Common Protocol: No need to define the various methods and interfaces jas they have the common protocol.

communication: Basically web services use the HTTP protocol to transfer data from one system to another decreasing the cost of transferring and overloading of network.

Dependency: Less dependency as they are self-describing and URI(Uniform resource interface) gives the full information of the endpoints leading to less resource utilizing.

Deployability: Can be deployed easily and SSL implementation is easily configured on it.

loose coupling: Helps to design modules independently.

Negatives:

HTTP is a stateless protocol and this is a hindrance in maintaining the long sessions.
