Essay Questions (15 points each)

The following four essay questions contain excerpts from your text – one for each lesson topic covered by this application lesson. Your assignment is to read the paragraph paying attention to the bolded text, which is the topic you are to write your essays on once you have had a chance to research the topic via the textbook, the LIRN database, web research, or any other form of media accessible to you. Once you have done your research, you can do one of two things for your essay:

Choose a negotiation you have been involved with or witnessed that portrayed the topic or choose a negotiation that you found during your research and summarize the parts that would best demonstrate your grasp of the lesson topic being covered.

Write your essay on the topic diving deeper into the use and tools required that would show your ability to effectively use or engage in a negotiation.

Types of Coalitions. Coalitions take many forms. We draw here on Cobb’s (1986) inventory of the different types of coalitions that exist. Select one of the following coalitions to cover for your essay. (Reference Lesson 21)

A potential coalition is an emergent interest group. It has the potential to become a coalition by taking collective action but has not yet done so. Two forms of a potential coalition can also be identified – latent and dormant.

An operating coalition is one that is currently operating, active, and in place. Two forms are common – established and temporary.

A recurring coalition is one that may have started as temporary but then determined that the issue or problem does not remain resolved; hence, the members need to remobilize themselves every time the presenting issue requires collective attention in the future.

Answer #1

Answer:

Coalition: Coalition is nothing but the formation of group of people or parties, in order to join together to achieve a common goal or objective for all the people /party who have joined together. It is a joint effort of people or party for their common goal/objective, because the goal/objective is not feasible to achieve by a single people or party.

In current world, coalition is the basic form of working, generally sees in the market. Many people joins together to carry out their social works/commitments. Many organizations form a group for achieving common goal. Many political parties are joined together to form the government in the state/country.

Type of coalition: The coalition takes many form or types. Some of these are as below

Potential Coalition : Potential coalition is defined as the coalition that is going to take place in near future between some people or parties. So a coalition that is not taken place but is expected to start in near future is known as the potential coalition. Potential coalition is judged based on the need of such group and without which the desired objective will not be executed or completed. Thus any group activity which is not going to be completed by single person or party, is going to have a coalition in near future to execute their tasks and achieve the objective. This all comes under the potential coalition.

Generally coalition is highly used in the political parties, because political parties are not able to make tjier government, so in order to achieve the majority , the parties are keep trying for making the potential coalitions in order to achieve the aim of government formation. Many political leaders are trying for different potential coalitions so that they can explore and try to form their own government.

Operating Coalition: The operating coalition is the coalition which is already formed by the people or group for their joint common objective and the coalition is running successfully. Thus a operating coalition is a coalition which is already formed and has been in use for a longer time. The people /parties involved in the operating coalition are achieving their desired target.

Recurring Coalition: The recurring coalition is defined as the coalition which is repeating again and again after some time intervals of some time period. Thus a coalition which is repeating for again fulfilling their common goal is known as the recurring coalition.
