I know the answer is C, but can someone explain why it is C? I thought the answer was A, where does the extra Oxygen come from in C?
The answer is C. The sucrose is made from 1 molecule each of glucose and fructose through a dehydration step to form the disacaride ether linkage.
When the ether is hydrolyzed in presence of acid; protonation takes place on the oxygen of the ethr linkage and then H2O attacks to next anomeric carbon and complete the hydrolysis by loosing the H+(Catalyst). So, the other OH comes from the water.
I know the answer is C, but can someone explain why it is C? I thought...

Can the iodine test distinguish between amylose and amylopectin? What Would you look for? Can sucrose act as a reducing sugar? Explain your answer. In the acid-catalyzed hydrolysis of starch, how can you tell when the hydrolysis of starch is complete? Why does the test work this way? What is the monosaccharide that results at the end? Polysaccharides generally do not give a positive test with Fehling's solution. Why?

Can someone please explain why the ordering is A>D>B>E>C I know why c is first because it's primary and why A is last because it's tertiary the most stable but the middle is hard for me to understand. Reaction coordinate 2. Rank the following carbocations in order of decreasing stability
Can someone please explain this one to me. I know the right answer (it is marked), but I do not understand why the first option is also not the correct answer. Any help is appreciated, thank you.
