Phenol group being close to carboxylate group in the salicylate anion, the phenol proton can form an intramolecular hydrogen bond to the carboxylate group. This stabilizes the anion, making the corresponding acid stronger. In aspirin it is not possible to form such a hydrogen bond. Therefore, the anion is less stable and the acid less strong.
