Adding gravity could be fatal if our bodies were exposed to it for a prolonged amount of time, advanced studies show that humans could survive 22 hours with double the gravity. Some long-term effects would be…

  • Falls would be very dangerous.
  • People with problems with obesity, a weak heart/weak bones, or other health conditions would be unlikely to survive long exposures to double gravity.
  • Our skeleton would be strained to support the increase in weight, and our muscles would struggle with even small movements.
  • Our blood pressure would have to double along with the gravity, to keep up with it, and athletic individuals would possibly adapt and build strong bones and muscles to fit with the gravity, but would struggle to overcome any injury
  • Big structures such as bridges would become dangerous and unsafe, depending on the safety margin from which they were built. Houses are more likely to stand then large structures.
  • Our hearts would have to work extra hard to pump our blood all around our bodies.
  • There would be massive food shortages - plants would struggle to support their weight, thus trees would collapse. Most plants would need artificial support to help them stand.
  • Any flying machine (plane, satellites etc) or creature would fall and crash immediately
  • If gravity everywhere was doubled, the earths orbit would be unstable and eventually would rapidly spiral into the sun, obviously burning up.
