If the defensive types of language most often create negative communication climate, explain why you feel we use this type of language so often when interacting with others with whom we share a relationship.

What is one strategy you think you can use to do a better job of using supportive language (or avoid using defensive language) to create a positive communication climate?

Imagine that you were the recipient of one of the defensive language statements given above and described in chapter 8. Explain how this statement would make you feel.  Then, without giving me an example of what you might say in return, describe the nature of response you would return to the other person.

Answer #1

1st part:

Defensive types of languages are basically used when the situation is uncontrollable or something wrong is happening or happened. The defensive languages are not predefined or any individual is not intended to use negative languages in general meetings for a shared relationship. There it is absolutely unpredictable because no one is willing to use defensive words until the situation gets worst as it happens all of a sudden, but some may control their anger towards other and rest vibrantly reacts that creates a complete negative communication in the relationship.

2nd part:

For avoiding negative communication it is required bringing the politeness attitude in the conversation and also necessary to engage in positive thoughts so that the conversation always meets with the standards of only significant necessities. The interaction should focus on the mainstream discussion of any valid topic so that the conversation never diverts to any other sense. The opposite persons should also listen to each other carefully rather not to interact fast, they are required to bring the stability to make their viewpoints with full justification. These are the strategies that can do a better job of bringing the effective communication climate.

3rd part:

The defensive language statements are of course not suitable for the recipient. It immediately increases the temperature of the environment at which the conversation is going on. The situation can be worst if the recipient gets unable to control emotions or anger. The whole climate may become destructive and it may dishearten the recipient badly.

4th part:

If the recipient is a genuine soft hearted person then the response will be positive in the communication. The person will try to bring down the heat of the conversation environment which was going on. The response in return should require diverting the situation to any other topic at that moment to make it ease which the person may feel encouraged and stop using defensive languages in the statement. The recipient should make the other person understand that negative communication will not make any sense, it is better to talk with full positive energy to reach to any conclusive measure of the topic.
