Borderline personality disoder can be diagnosed in the late teens. It has an impact over how one feels about oneself. For this diagnosis, the individual should exhibit rapid changes in self image and identity ; impulsive and risky behavior; self injuious or suicidal tendencies; inappropriate anger and tantrums, feelings of emptiness; intense and unstable personal relationships for a minimum duration of 6 months.

I think Miley Cyrus could be suffering from this disorder because at 14-15 years of age, she started exhibiting the above symptoms. Erratic behavior, tempur tantrums and low self esteem and image were evident from her on screen presence. She also admitted that she is impulsive, likes ot take risks, and has indulged in harmful behavior.

Some risk factors could be having a genetic predisposition towards borderline personality disorder which means some one close in the family might have suffered from it. Another factor could be a stressful childhood, which is a possibility due to her starring on television and establishing a singing career at a young age.

The treatment plan would include psychotherapy and medication. Medicines are needed to control anger or aggression and also bouts of depression. Dialectical behavior therapy has proven to work for individuals with BPD. She will need to go for this on a regular basis. A good support group will also help to deal with stress.

If Miley undergoes treatment, she will be able to cope well and become more confident as BPD can not be cured since it is a personality disorder. A personality can not be completely changed. However, with therapy and medication she will learn to deal with her issues and problems.
