What is MT and why did the Newsome Lab focus its efforts to understand perception there? What were the primary aims of the work on MT?
MT stands for Middle temporal visual area.
Newsome, was a neuroscience faculty at Stanford University, who along with Daniel Salzman, was studying the elctrical activity of directionally selective neurons in visual cortex. They trained rhesus monkeys to respond differently to stimuli moving in different directions. While testing them, they were recording the activity in MT neurons. When the columns of "up" cells or "down" cells were stimulated, monkeys perceived that the stimulus was moving upward, while actually it was moving downward. This identified that while activating neurons artificially, Newsome was able to change the monkey's conscious perceptual judgement. This experiment fascinated him.
Newsome and his colleagues are researching on the processing of visual information. Studies are underway to understand processing of visual information as signals move from one cortical area to the next. Also, understanding the process of sensorimotor integration are the primary aims on this area.

A. Your lab To see if you understand what you did in our lab, answer the following based in the procedures for the restriction digest and the gel electrophoresis. 1. Using the PGLO map on p7 of the gel electrophoresis procedure, predict the size of the fragments generated by each enzyme EcoRI Hindill, and Pst! (the sizes you would expect to see on the gel.) (6 pts) Hindill -8 fragments were produced by the restriction enzyme. 2. Answer the calculation...

Week 1 Post-Lab Summary Questions and Activities 1. Why did you use a primary standard like KHP and not another aqueous solution (e.g. HCI) to determine the concentration of NaOH? 2. What is the average concentration of your standardized NaOH solution? Show the calculations for one of the titrations. Include any data and data tables used to calculate the concentration. 3. What are 2 possible sources of error associated with the standardization of NaOH?...
