The contention of the student is wrong.

He states that "An object moving with a constant speed cannot have a constant acceleration". The keyword here is cannot. If we have even 1 example where constant speed results in constant acceleration his contention is wrong.

Suppose a body is moving in a straight line at a constant speed. Then its acceleration is always 0 as there is no change in velocity. This proves that his contention is wrong.

But suppose that the bosy moves with a constant speed but is changing its direction randomly, then the acceleration of the body keeps changing.

So the students contention should be "An object moving with a constant speed cannot always (may or may not) have a constant acceleration"
