The evolution plays a major driver for antibiotic resistance via natural selection. The antibiotic resistance is an environmental pressure by which bacteria will acquire mutation allowing them to survive which leads to their propagation. This mutation acquired through natural selection is passed to their offspring which will generate a fully resistant bacterial species.
Antibiotic resistance through natural selection occurs through random mutation but it can also generated by engineering an evolutionary stress on a population. Once such a evolutionary pressure is generated, bacteria can transfer the genetic information in a horizontal fashion by plasmid exchange.
