Answer #1

All the societies have their own norms and laws that form the basis for the smooth functioning of the society. People in that particular society is expected to behave and live within the boundaries of those norms and laws. Although these norms and laws differ from country to country and culture to culture, they are central to the smooth functioning of the society. However, there are few instances when people deviate from the norms or laws. Firstly, discrimination and oppression cause people to deviate from the norms and laws that prevent them from live a meaningful and happy life. There are others who feel the old norms and laws are irrelevant thus, fight for a change in the society. Most of the revolutions occurred in order to change the way the society was functioning. There are also instances for deviance when people engage in drugs and alcohol thus, may not be aware what they are doing. Nevertheless, when people do not conform, they are given sanctions that would limit them from their basic rights. Providing punishments for those who violate the norms and laws would act as a motivator for others to stay away from deviance.
