A cell contains a mutant SRP protein that cannot bind the normal signal sequence on target proteins. Explain how this would affect the endoplasmic reticulum structure AND function. How would cytoplasmic protein production be affected? Explain your reasoning.

The signal recognition particle is cytosolic, ribonucleoprotein that recognizes and targets specific proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum in eukaryotes,

peptide is recognized by SRP and bound by it,the SRP and ribosome bind to the receptor on ER,protein is inserted in to the ER,signal sequence is removed by the enzyme of ER

The mutant SRP will bind to the polypeptide but cannot be able to attach it to the ER membrane,decreases the protein synthesis,hence translocation will not occur.
