What is a good rig to mine ethereum? I want to start mining ethereum but I’m confused as to what I should get. Any suggestions? Also, does mining ethereum ONLY wear out the gpu or does it also wear out other components?

Right now, GPU is the only option to mine ethereum, like you can use CPU also but that won't be making much of a difference. What happens is that you put your GPU for solving complex puzzle problem and based on the complexity of the problem and number of problems you will get paid, GPU's are really fast compared to CPU's and their solving capability is way faster er, hence they will produce more earning.

After selecting some mining hardware, the next step is to install the mining software. First off, miners need to install a client to connect to the network.

Programmers familiar with the command line can install geth, which runs an ethereum node written in the scripting language 'Go', or any of a number of clients.

It will affect only the GPU but if it's heating up then the components around will also face the heat this means that they will also deteriorate before the completing the lifecycle.
