1) Concept

> Arithmetic average return is the return on investment calculated by simply adding the returns for all sub-periods and then dividing it by total number of periods.

> Variance of returns In portfolio theory, the variance of return is the measure of risk inherent in investing in a single asset or portfolio.

> Standard deviation is a measure of how much an investment's returns can vary from its average return. It is a measure of volatility and in turn, risk.

> Arithmetic average return =    m = \frac{\text{sum of the terms}}{\text{number of terms}}

> Variance of returns = (Standard deviation)2

> Standard deviation is = \sigma={\sqrt {\frac {\sum(x_{i}-{\mu})^{2}}{N}}}

3) Calculations

- Mean = [6+24+13-14+15] / 5

               = 8.8 %

- Standard Deviation = [814.8/5]1/2
